Leveraging your Social Network

For a brief stint of about 6 months, I managed the social media accounts for a realtor in Santa Cruz. It started as me connecting her social media presence with her local brand, which had been around for many years. This soon turned into her desire to re-brand, as she was pursuing a startup and wanted to use her real-world clout to promote her platform.

I helped her reconsider her brand, asking her what she wanted to be know for, who she was attempting to market to, and what knowledge she currently had that she could leverage as a selling point. Afterwards, I had her web designer add these as tags to her homepage, as well as

I ran a campaign dedicated to spreading awareness to previous clients about her new brand, as well as ran targeted advertisements to attract new clients based on the demographics of people who visited her Facebook pages. I also promoted her Twitter and started a montly newsletter that would contain relevant information for people in the market for homes and commercial properties, which I researched both on my own, and which I received from my client.

My client also asked me to make some social-media-ready flyers to advertise her listings online, which I produced using the open-source graphics application, Inkscape. Having never had experience making flyers, I did some research and attmpted to model my design on what I thought were informative and simple advertisements for other real estate listings.

Over the 6 months I managed her profile, I developed a 5% growth rate of followers per month, which trickled down to 0-1% after I stopped managing her platforms.

The first flyer is a revision of a flyer that my client had initially posted on Facebook that was impossible to read from the browser. I enlarged the text and added more appropriate pictures, and changed the copy to my client's request. The second flyer builds off the first one, but after my client had decided to change her branding. The final flyer shows the signature we decided upon that displays her Twitter, Facebook, and Realtor number (a new requirement for Real Estate agents advertising online).
